Andrei's Affliction contract not renewed

Everytime I see news on Andrei it's been negative recently. First he gets smashed, then his boxing debut gets canceled, then I see a poll on Sherdog asking if he and Tim Sylvia will be top 10 fighters by this time next year (grouped with Poopy for god's sake!) and now Tom Atencio is not interested in renewing Andrei's contract. We need some good news Andrei and Leo, good luck and work something out to get us back on track! We are waiting patiently for some great things for the future!

Permalink Reply by Scott Asnault on June 24, 2009 at 12:56am: Affliction has other issues. They might not be able to sign anyone at this point. Rumors are that Affliction: Trilogy will be the last. AA is still a top 10 fighter. All fighters in MMA hit skids and bounce back. I firmly believe that Andrei has a lot of fight left in him and he will easily find a place to fight.; ▶ Reply to This

In between events they have been co-promoting with other orgs with a stronger foundation and been loaning out their fighters as publicity for their brand without having to foot the bill for the entire production. I'm glad you still think he has a lot of fight left in him, but this recent loss will unfortunately not make finding a place to fight as easy as it should be. The only org that Affliction has been working with that has any foundation is Strikeforce. I would not be surprised if a deal is being worked there to take those contracts on. Sylvia will not be resigned and rumors are he will be spending time over at Adrenaline. And Sylvia is out of the top 10. Barnett's contract is up after this next fight. Not sure what the status is of Fedor's contract. Let's wait to see what is announced for Andrei in the next couple of months.; ▶ Reply to This
