WASHINGTON – The Obama administration's pay czar is limiting 2010 compensation for top executives at GMAC Inc. because the auto finance giant continues to lose money and can't yet repay its $16.3 billion taxpayer bailout, according to people familiar with the negotiations.
Only one of the top 25 earners at GMAC will earn more than $500,000 in cash, and CEO Michael Carpenter will receive only stock compensation and no cash, said the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were no…

ALPINE MEADOWS, Calif. – On a ridge near the 8,600-foot summit of Alpine Meadows ski resort, 17-year-old snowboarder Lucas Fuller scopes out the many chutes and bowls that radiate out from Ward Peak.
It's a perfect powder day, with clear skies and fresh snow delivered to the Lake Tahoe area the day before. The teenager from Reno, Nev., likes the resort because it has numerous ungroomed, expert-level slopes that approximate the back-country.
For this run, the teenager from Reno, Nev., is looking…

My training camp trip to the Grudge Training Center in Denver, Colorado has been postponed. I was hoping to train with the Jackson Camp and specifically spar with Shane Carwin in preparation for his upcoming match again Frank Mir in the UFC 111. Unfortunately, Shane needs a lefty to spar with, so we decided to hold off for now. I will continue my work regimen here in Chicago with Team Pit Bull and will let you all know as soon as we make a decision on our next move!

I was just recently checking on a pay per view and noticed that the UFC is airing a show on spike tv the same saturday as Strikeforce April 17. I thought that we were trying to make the sport bigger. How is that gonna happen if the UFC jumps in everytime there is a fight card that is not supported by them? I think they do things like this so that they have the market cornered. That is not right there is some really good fights the 17 how are they gonna make us choose. The sport can not grow i

RALEIGH, N.C. – North Carolina's attorney general has ordered an independent review of the state's crime lab following revelations about practices there that led to the exoneration of a man wrongly accused of murder.
Attorney General Roy Cooper told The Associated Press on Friday that two former assistant directors of the Federal Bureau of Investigation will review the lab's practices. Cooper says the review of cases dating to the 1990s will begin in about a week.

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Rep. Eric Massa, a freshman Democrat from New York, said Wednesday that he will not seek a second term after a recurrence of cancer late last year, dismissing blog reports that he had harassed a staffer.
Massa, 50, who was stricken with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 1996, was elected in 2008, defeating Republican Rep. Randy Kuhl in a district long dominated by Republicans. He said during a two-minute conference call with reporters that his cancer returned in December.

MIAMI – A killer whale that dragged a trainer to her death eluded SeaWorld workers who furiously unfurled nets while it swam pool-to-pool during the attack last week, according to witness statements released Monday.
After minutes of frenzied work to save Dawn Brancheau, the whale was finally corralled but still refused to unclench its teeth, according to the investigative reports released by the Orange County Sheriff's Office. Investigators have said before that she died from multiple traumatic…

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – The earthquake in Chile was far stronger than the one that struck Haiti last month — yet the death toll in this Caribbean nation is magnitudes higher.
The reasons are simple.
Chile is wealthier and infinitely better prepared, with strict building codes, robust emergency response and a long history of handling seismic catastrophes. No living Haitian had experienced a quake at home when the Jan. 12 disaster crumbled their poorly constructed buildings.
And Chile was relat…

WASHINGTON — In a crucial week of high wire politics, Barack Obama is seeking to transform his top priority health care plan, now a liability for his presidency, into a trump card to outwit Republicans.
But ahead of the president's bipartisan health "summit" on Thursday, Republicans also think they may have a winning hand, after building their resurgence on blanket opposition to the plan and Obama's wider agenda.
The White House said it would release details of the plan on its website Monday.…

WHISTLER, British Columbia — New medal. Same old Bode.
Or is it?
Depends on whether you listen to what others say or what Bode Miller himself says.
Before heading off to collect his bronze from the men's Olympic downhill Monday, the ever-enigmatic Miller sounded off on so many subjects, the way he so often has.
Never a dull moment with this guy.
He talked about how he "relaxed a bunch of my animosity toward the commercialism of the Olympics from the last time. I can't personally change that…

LOS ANGELES — Kevin Smith says he's "way fat," but that shouldn't stop him from flying.

Smith raised a stink about the incident on his Twitter page Sunday, saying "I'm way fat, but I'm not there just yet," and "If you look like me, you may be ejected from Southwest Air."
He posted a picture of himself sitting on the plane with his ch…
